On 26 September 2026 the SSK Lemberg range hosted the open Lviv Oblast championship in pistol and PCC. Shooters from the Parabellum club came home with two medals.
Results
Our shooters made the podium in the Open division and in the overall standings:
- 2nd place - Mykyta Petrakov
- 3rd place - Vitalii Obleshchuk, instructor at the Parabellum range
What the match involved
The programme had 7 stages: one long, three medium and three short. That adds up to 134 scoring shots for every competitor.
Some of the targets were steel: 4 plates, 4 poppers and 6 mini-poppers. Steel only counts when it falls, so every miss costs time for another shot.
In practical shooting, hitting the target is not enough. Every stage is a course: the shooter moves between positions, reloads on the move and shoots from different positions, and the score is points divided by time. So the winner is neither the fastest nor the most accurate shooter, but the one who combines both.
What Open and PCC mean
Open is the division that allows modified pistols with a red dot sight and a compensator. It is the fastest equipment in practical shooting, so the competition is at its tightest: a half-second mistake shows up in the final results.
PCC (pistol caliber carbine) is a carbine chambered for a pistol cartridge such as 9×19. It is steadier than a pistol but heavier, and it needs its own technique for movement and reloads.
“No walk in the park”
That is how Vitalii Obleshchuk summed up the day:
“It was no walk in the park, but the match was genuinely interesting”
For an instructor, a match is also a test of their own technique. What Vitalii explains to range visitors every day, he had to show himself here: against the timer, after running between positions and with no second attempt.
Where it all starts
Everyone on the podium today once held a pistol for the first time under an instructor's eye. The technique that decides a match is built in an ordinary session on the lane: stance, grip, trigger control, reloads.
